The Mission (também conhecida como Mission ou The Mission UK) é uma banda de rock gótico formada em 1985 no Reino Unido. Membros fundadores foram, Wayne Hussey e Craig Adams logo após terem deixado o The Sisters Of Mercy por divergências musicais com o então líder da banda Andrew Eldritch. Fazem sua primeira apresentação como The Mission no Electric Ballroom, em Londres, em 1985 e fazem a primeira tournê como banda de suporte dos The Cult em 1986. Ainda nesse ano lançaram dois singles Serpent's Kiss e Garden Of Delight/Like A Hurricane, sendo o single Serpent's Kiss o single independente mais vendido do ano. Em Setembro lançam God's Own Medicine, seu primeiro álbum que traz os clássicos "Stay With Me", "Wasteland" e “Severina”. O disco produzido por Tim Palmer. Em algumas faixas (inclusive “Severina”) os backing vocals contam com a participação de Julianne Regan, vocalista da banda All About Eve. Para retribuir o gesto Wayne produziria o single "Our Summer" do All About Eve, que também contou com Mick na bateria. Wayne ainda arrumou tempo para gravar um single com Guthrie Handley chamado Where Was?. O All About Eve abriria vários shows para o Mission durante a década de 80. Em 1987 The Mission realizou uma tournê pela Grã-Bretanha, Europa e América e abrem alguns shows dos U2 na fase europeia da tournê The Joshua Tree. Os álbuns seguintes «First Chapter», «Children», «Carved In The Sand» e «Grains In The Sand», tiveram algum sucesso e têm musicas que ficaram para a história da década de 90. Em Abril de 1990, no início da tournê Americana o guitarrista Simon Hinkler sai da banda.
Em 1992 «Masque» é lançado, o álbum é sem dúvida uma significativa mudança de estilo da banda e com a saída de Craig Adam, nesse mesmo ano, começa o declínio da banda.
Em 1995 foi lançado o álbum «Neverland» e em 1996 o álbum «Blue». Entre 1996 e 1999 os Mission cessaram a sua actividade e os seus elementos seguiram quase todos outros projectos musicais. O ano de 1999 é marcado pelo retorno de várias bandas clássicas do “rock gótico” como Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim e Garden of Delight. Inspirados por tantos retornos, Wayne Hussey e Craig resolvem reformar e reactivar a antiga banda. A tournê baptizada adequadamente de “Ressurrection” contou com a participação das bandas Gene Loves Jezebel, Mike Peters e All About Eve. Em Novembro de 1999 é lançado o disco «Resurrection», uma colectânea de hits da banda.
Em 2001, o disco «Aura» é lançado, foi gravado nos Estados Unidos e Inglaterra, e contou com a produção de Wayne Hussey e sendo produzido por Dave Allen (The Cure, Sisters of Mercy) e Steve Power (Robbie Williams). O disco marcou o retorno ao velho estilo do Mission. Iniciaram então vários espectáculos durante o ano de 2001 e 2002. Mas durante uma tournê em 2002, Craig abandonou a banda o que levou a que os Mission hoje sejam apenas Wayne Hussey e músicos convidados.

Craig Adams saiu da banda em 1992 e juntou-se aos The Cult. Mick Brown saiu em 1996 e envolveu-se em vários projectos incluindo os Oasis. Simon Hinkler deixou a banda em 1990 e desde então tem vindo a trabalhar em vários projectos.
Scott Garrett (baterista) saiu da banda em 2003 e juntou-se aos The Cult. Rob Holliday foi guitarrista de 2002 a 2005 Tem uma banda dele mas também tocou com os Prodigy e Gary Numan.
Andy Cousin (baixista) tocou com os All About Eve. Rik Carter (teclas), saiu da banda em 1996 e trabalha em vários projectos nomeadamente também com os All About Eve.
